Green Leafhopper, Nephotettix sp

  • White or pale yellow eggs are laid inside leaf sheaths or midribs. Nymphs are light green in colour and adults are pale green in colour

Both nymphs and adults suck sap from leaves resulting in yellowing from tip to downwards. Severe incidence causes withering and complete drying of plant. Damaged plants get stunted with reduced vigour. Green leafhopper transmits tungro virus disease. This virus disease is much more damaging than the direct feeding damage by the leafhopper.
